The New All Saints Liturgical Dance Ministry began in 1996 under the leadership of Jacqueline Harding and Janice Curtis Greene.The Ministry initially started so that the young women could join other dancers from Baltimore Black Catholic parishes in preparation for the Eighth Black Catholic Congress, which convened August 28 - 31, 1997 in Baltimore, Maryland.After the Congress the Liturgical Dance Ministry continued and has grown from a Youth and Young Adult Ministry to include Adult, Male and Praise Angel components.As the Ministry grew it became a part of the NAS Music Ministry.
Purpose:
To expand the worship experience to include sacred movement at liturgies and special celebrations;
To draw youth into parish activities by providing a means of self expression through dance, mime and movement and
To provide adults with a means of exercise and a support system while worshipping the God who brought them through life’s trials.
Goals:
To educate members in the use of movement in scripture by including Bible Study, Retreats and Educational Workshops as elements of the Dance Ministry;
To support other New All Saints Church Youth and Young Adult Ministries and
To expose Dance Ministry members to worship experiences of other churches by participating in other liturgical celebrations, classes and programs around in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area.
